CAD

On the File tab, in the Import group: Click CAD to import and display data in a variety of native CAD formats. If the imported file has point and line features, and 3D solids that can be imported as wireframes, the corresponding tabs of the form are enabled.

Input

Single

Select the Single option to import a single CAD file. If you want to import a folder containing multiple files, select the Bulk Import option.

File

Click the Select icon to navigate to the location of the input file. Select the All Files option to list all compatible files. Alternatively, filter the list of files by choosing a specific file format:

Type

The following CAD file types can be imported:

Format File Extension
AutoCAD DWG, DXF, DXB, DWF
Microstation DGN DGN

Layers

By default, All layers will be imported unless you select Visible to import only the visible layers in the CAD, or Select and choose the layers you want to import using the check boxes (or click Select All / Clear All).

To select multiple layers with the Select option active, hold down the CTRL or the SHIFT key as you select layers with the mouse.

Use the Points & Lines tab to import points and lines if the input file contains point and line features.

Use the Wireframes tab to import wireframes if the input file contains 3D solids that can be imported as wireframes.

Note: The Points & Lines and Wireframes tabs are enabled where the input file contains valid elements for import.

Bulk Import

When the Bulk Import option on the Input tab is selected, you can specify a path for a folder containing multiple CAD files to be imported.

All files ending in the specified file extension (e.g. “.dxf”) in the specified folder path will be imported. Layers cannot be configured for Bulk imports - all layers will be imported.

Type

Select the Type of CAD files to be imported from the drop down.

Path

Use the folder icon to navigate to and select the folder where the files to be imported are located.

Run

Finally, click Run to begin the import process.
