General

On the Design tab, in the Utilities group, use the options on the General menu, to process and manipulate your polyline and polygon data:

  • Select General | Condition String to clean and prepare strings and polygons prior to wireframing.

  • Select General | Coalesce to join multiple strings into one.

  • Select Drape | Drape on Wireframe to drape strings or points onto a wireframe. The strings or points are dropped vertically onto the wireframe. In the case of strings, points are inserted wherever a string crosses a triangle boundary.

  • Select General | Insert Planar Intersections to generate intersection points where the strings in an input file intersect with a plane. An orthogonal or a transform plane can be defined, or one or more section planes can be selected from a section control file.

  • Select General | Simplify String to reduce the number of data points in a String file by eliminating those that fall within a specified tolerance, when a line is drawn through them from the points on either side.

  • Select General | Smooth to smooth the strings in a nominated input file.

  • Select General | Subset String to subset a string file into open and closed strings. The function can be used to validate strings, or identify strings that can be used in a wireframe cut operation.

  • Select General | Flatten String to flatten the strings in an input file onto an orthogonal or transform projection plane.

  • Select General | Reorder to renumber Join field values for the strings in an input file and optionally sort those strings based on one or more reorder fields. An option to write renumbered and reordered strings to an output file is provided.

  • Select General | Buffer String to add buffers or zones of influence to the strings in an input file. An option to create inner buffers for polygons is provided. You can label the buffer lines and also select an option to dissolve the lines between multiple buffers.

  • Select General | Desurvey String to calculate the length, cumulative length, azimuth, inclination and distance between successive points in a data file, and writes those values to fields in the input file.

  • Select General | Polygon Attributes to calculate the area, perimeter, geometric centroid, and label centroid of the polygons (strings or outlines) in a file.
