On the File | File Editor tab, in the View group: Click Freeze Panes to freeze or lock rows and columns to be always visible while scrolling in the editor.

This option is also available on the Lookup Table Editor tab for Lookup Tables.

The Freeze Panes tool on the right-click menu is particularly useful and allows you to:

  1. Freeze one or more of the top rows:
  2. Select the row below the ones you want to freeze and then apply the Freeze Pane tool.

  3. Freeze one or more columns:
  4. Select the column to the right of the ones you want to freeze and then apply the Freeze Pane tool.

  5. Freeze both columns and rows:
  6. Select the single cell to the right of, and below, where you want to "freeze" and then apply the Freeze Pane tool.

To unfreeze columns and rows

On the File | File Editor tab, in the View group: Click Unfreeze Panes (or select the same option from the right-click menu) to unlock and freely scroll the whole dataset. This option is only available when a Freeze operation is currently set on the fields, columns or rows in the editor.
