Volume Calculations

Choose a calculation method from:

  • 2 DTMs - finds the volume between two triangulated surfaces.
  • DTM and Elevation - finds the volume between a single triangulated surface and a specified Z value (elevation).
  • 2 DTMs - Report By Elevation - finds the volume of one or more benches that lie between two triangulated surfaces.

When a volume is calculated between two DTMs, it will give the correct answer even when the surfaces intersect. The calculation projects each triangle in the first DTM onto the second DTM. Many other software packages calculate the volume between the first surface and an arbitrary Z and then subtract the volume between the second surface and the same Z. This will give an incorrect result when the two surfaces intersect.
