From Data File (Advanced)
The function works by determining if the point coordinates of the records in the input file occur within the wireframe volumes. If so, it assigns the values of the attributes you have nominated to the wireframes that contain those points. See: Attribute Assign Methods
Files
On the Files tab, specify the source, target and report files that will be used during the assign process.
Wireframe
To process a single wireframe, select the Single option, select the Type of the wireframe, and then the Name of a wireframe of that type.
To process multiple wireframes, expressions, wildcards and partial names may be used in the Name field to select multiple wireframes as an adhoc wireframe set. A right-click Preview option will perform a check of an expression before using that expression to generate an updated list of wireframes. Alternatively, you can click the Expression icon and use the Expression Editor to create, modify and validate the expression. When a name or wildcard is entered in the Name field, and the Expression button is selected, the name/wildcard will automatically be converted to a valid expression when opened in the editor.
To process the wireframes in a predefined wireframe set, select the Set option.
It is recommended that you Validate wireframes prior to using them in any process.
Data File
Double-click (or click on the Select icon) to select the name of the file that contains the source data for the assign process.
Assigning
By Point Position
If you have chosen this option, a point is considered to belong to a wireframe if its spatial position lies within the wireframe. Double-click to select the names of the fields in which Easting, Northing, and Z coordinates are stored in the data file.
By Key Attribute
If you have chosen this option, a point is considered to belong to a wireframe if its Data file field value is equal to the value of a nominated wireframe attribute.
By Wireframe
If you have chosen this option, wireframe Type and Name field values in the data file will be used to match points to a specific wireframe.
When you right-click on a field selection, the option to use a dynamic field expression is supported. See: Expression Editor
Report file
When you run the assign process a Report file is created. This report is useful when you want to verify what has been written to the target wireframes and ensure that the process was successful.
Once the source data file and a report file have been specified, use the Attributes tab to map fields in the source file to the attributes you want to populate in the target wireframe or wireframe set. You can also select how Numeric and Character field values are assigned.
Run
Finally, click Run to run the function.
