Connect the Survey Instrument

If you are importing directly from an instrument, you need to know the communications parameters (as specified in the instrument’s manual). If your instrument offers a choice of formats, use the fastest available speed (baud rate). The settings you need to know are:

• Communications speed (baud rate).
• Parity.
• Word length.
• Handshaking, if specified.
• The request string that initiates a download. Not all instruments have this.
• The PC port to which the instrument is connected.
• The parameters for these settings must be entered in the Import Obs form.
