To Volume

Implicit modelling is done in two stages: a model is created and then a triangulation is created from the model. When you run an implicit modelling function and save the model, it can be used as an input to the functions on the Output Implicit Model menu on the Implicit tab, in the Tools group. These functions allow you to generate output wireframes, points, block models or volumes for the same model, without having to recompute the model each time.

On the Implicit tab, in the Tools group: Select Output Implicit Model | To Volume to generate a volume from an input model.

(Alternatively, on the File tab, in the Convert group: Select Volume | From Implicit Model.)

Input

Implicit model file

Double-click in the Implicit model file field or click on the Select icon to select the name of a file that was saved as an output file when running an implicit modelling function.

Constraints

Use input constraints

Select the check box if you would like to apply the constraints values contained in the input file. If this check box is not selected, you will need to use the Constraints grid to enter the minimum and maximum extents of the surface.

East, North and Z fields

Specify the Minimum and Maximum extents of the surface in the East, North and Z directions.

Use the buttons on the local toolbar to Manage the rows in the list.

The Autofill the grid option opens the Autofill Extents form from which you can select where the extents will be sourced from. You can also select an option to expand the extents in one or more directions.

The Auto calculate grid option will calculate the extents for the model from the input file specified.

Granularity

The Granularity options are used to set the granularity of the physical properties of the implicit model.

Isotropic

Select the Isotropic check box to apply isotropic granularity. This means that the physical properties of the model are the same in all directions. With this check box selected then, only the X value needs to be entered.

X, Y, Z

Where the granularity for the model is not Isotropic, use the X,Y,Z fields to enter the values for the coordinate directions. For isotropic granularity, enter the X coordinate.

Output

The fields in the Output section are used to set the field and file applicable to the volume output.

Output field

Use the field provided to enter the name of the field for the volume output.

Volume file

Use the field or click the ellipsis to set the file for the output.

Run

Click Run to convert the implicit model file to a volume file.
