Remove Nearby Points

On the Design tab, in the Utilities group: Select Point | Remove Nearby Points to reduce the number of data points in a String file by eliminating those which fall within a specified tolerance.

Input file

In the Remove Nearby Points form, choose the type of input file and select or type in its name.

Easting, Northing and Z fields

Double-click to specify the coordinate fields in the input file. The specification of a Z coordinate is optional.

Tolerance

Specify a tolerance which is the minimum distance (in metres) between points.

  • If the tolerance is set to zero (the default) the process will filter out duplicate points.
  • If a tolerance greater than zero is set, this is the distance from each point, within which other points will be treated as duplicates and excluded from the output file.

Output file

Choose the type of output file and double-click to select (or type) in its name.

You can assess the effect of the operation by displaying the processed and unprocessed files together, with one as a background file in a different colour.
