Sort

On the File tab, in the Edit Data group: Click Sort to sort a file by the values in one or more fields. Given the sequential nature of string data, be careful when sorting strings. Make sure there is a field in the file that can be used to unsort the data.

This option is also available on the Lookup Table Editor tab for Lookup Tables.

Input

In the File Sort form, select a File Type and double-click (or click on the Select icon) to select the name of the Source file.

Fields to Sort

Double-click (or click on the Select icon) to select the Fields to be used as sort keys. You can also use an expression to select the relevant field for the sort.

More than one field can be used in a sort. In this case, the contents of the file are sorted on the first field, then on the subsequent fields in the order they are defined.

For each field you have selected, choose either an ASCENDING or a DESCENDING sort order from the drop down.

Output

If you want to apply the Sort process to the Input file, select the Modify input file check box. Otherwise, select a File Type and enter (or double-click to select) the name of the output Target file.

Forms

Click the Forms button to select and open a saved form set, or if a form set has been loaded, save the current form set

Run

Finally, click the Run button to begin the Sort process.
