Generate Gain

In the Generate Gain dialog, define a search range within the SEG-Y file to calculate the gain. The search obtains the samples within a range of traces, and within a range of times on those traces (where the trace number is the Nth trace in the SEG-Y file, not the Trace sequence number defined in the trace header).

This will get the 80th percentile absolute sample value (ignoring the sign). It will also get the average 2D distance between the traces in the range.

Using these two values, the process will generate a gain which will make a sample equal to the 80th percentile and will draw the wiggle the average 2D distance away from the trace line (20 percent of the samples should overlap the next trace line).

Trace Number and Time (ms)

From the Trace Number From To range and the Time From To, the function will calculate the average absolute sample value in the range (always positive). It will also calculate the average distance between traces and make the gain equal to the average distance / average sample.

As a result, the average sample will sit approximate to the next trace.
