Traverse field

Use the Traverse field to distinguish between separate traverses in the same file. For example, if the file contains two traverses, the observations relating to the first traverse might have T1 in this field, while records that are part of the second traverse might have T2.

Some of the records in the file may be observations to radial points. These are points of interest that are not part of the traverse itself and are differentiated by putting the Off traverse flag (e.g. R) in the Traverse field. The table below shows a file that has data for two traverses - T1 and T2. The first point of each traverse has known coordinates. Coordinates for the other points will be calculated by the Compass Traverse function. Point 3A is not part of the traverse. It is a point of interest, observed to from point 3.

NOTES:

If the file only contains observations for a single traverse, without any radial points, the Traverse field is not required.

If the Compass Traverse function is being used to calculate the points of inflection along a trench, then the Traverse field would contain the trench name.
