Parent and child frames

The child-parent relationship between frames is shown in the Plot Frames pane.

  1. If it is not already open, use the Plot Editor toolbar to open the Plot Frames pane. The items listed at the top-level of the tree represent the parent frames in the plot layout.
  2. Click the [+] icon next to one of the parent frames to expand it. The frames underneath the parent frame are the children. These frames are said to be nested within the parent. Other frames within the same parent are said to be siblings.
  3. Depending on which parent frame you expand, you may see a third level of nested frames. These frames are children of children.

A grid, a graticule, or a section window must be the child of a parent plot frame. You cannot drag a grid, a graticule, or a section window away from its parent frame.
