Report file

Enter a name for a Report file. All error messages generated by the Validate functions (or Downhole Coordinates) are sent to this file. It is compulsory to enter a name for this file in Drillhole Validate and Trench Validate (optional in Downhole Coordinates).

The report file clearly describes the file and record from which each error or warning originates.

Use the Goto command in the Edit menu of the File Editor to move to each invalid record. Alternatively, some functions display the contents of the report file in a Report Viewer.

It is often best to work backwards from the end of the file when correcting errors in the Interval file. If you then delete a duplicate record, you can still find the other invalid records in the file.

If the error report file contains a series of errors in consecutive records of an Interval file, it is often due to an invalid From/To interval in the first of the consecutive records.

Drillhole Validate

The following error conditions will be written to a report file, along with their record number:

  • From < last To Non Consecutive Surveys
  • From >= To Dips Change By > x deg
  • From or To Blank Surveys Beyond EOH
  • Collar Missing or Wrong Missing Hole (Assay file)
  • Record Beyond Total Depth Compulsory Field Blank
  • Excluded by Collar Filter Total Depth Missing
  • Duplicate Hole Duplicate Collar Entry

Trench Validate

The following error conditions will be written to a report file, along with the filename and record number:

  • Total trace length < Total sample length
  • TrenchID repeated for non-consecutive records

Trench file

  • TrenchID is present in Assay file, but not in Trench file
  • Missing East, North or Z coordinate
  • Duplicate East, North and Z for same TrenchID
  • Trench trace consists of one point only
  • Missing TrenchID

Assay file

  • TrenchID is present in Trench file, but not in Assay file
  • Missing TrenchID
  • Missing From or To value
  • From > To
  • From = To
  • Gaps between sample intervals
  • Overlapping sample intervals
  • From does not start from 0 m
  • From and To are repeated for the same TrenchID

The number of errors displayed in the Report Viewer is limited to 500. A large number of errors will indicate a serious problem with the drillhole data. It is unlikely the problem can be resolved simply by editing records in the File Editor.
