Design Parameters

On the Design Parameters tab of the Road Design form, enter parameters to define a cross section of the road you want to model.

Profile

Symmetric

Select the Symmetric check box when the profiles to the left and right of the centre line are the same (this is the most common case).

Slope units

Specify the Gradient Units in which the slope of the road profile is measured.

Left and Right

The Left and Right “legs” of the profile string are defined in terms of their Width and Slope. Selecting the Symmetric check box (above) will disable the inputs for the Right side of the centre line. The parameters entered for the Left of the centre line will be duplicated on the Right.

Use the buttons on the local toolbar to Manage the rows in the list.

Batters

Batter parameters are the same for left and right. Slope units for the road profile and the batters are often different (the profile is commonly % and batters are usually in degrees).

Slope units

Specify the gradient units in which the batter slopes are measured.

Cut and Fill

Enter Slope values for the batters created from the Cut and Fill volumes.

Create batter at end of road

Select the option to specify that the bench face / batter should be created at the end of the road.

Preview

A preview of the cross sectional road profile, including Cut (RED) and Fill (GREEN) batter slopes is shown in the Preview pane on the lower half of the form.

Material Parameters

Density, Swell factor and Compaction parameters are optional. If they are left blank, the process will not calculate volume, in loose and dense form, or tonnage. If they are specified, the process will write them to the Report file and use them to calculate the following values:

  • Cut and Fill mass (TONNES)
  • Cut and Fill volumes in loose cubic metres (LCM)
  • Cut and Fill volumes in compacted cubic metres (CCM)
