Defining a Waypoint Rule

Waypoint rules specify actions that will occur when a unit of equipment or a person enters the zone of influence of a waypoint. Rules are comprised of an action and criteria. All of the criteria configured on a rule must be satisfied before the rule’s action is performed. The action itself will produce an event against the equipment that passed the waypoint.

For example, if a truck hits a given waypoint and is travelling in a given direction the rule action may be to automatically allocate the truck to a particular loader. A waypoint may have multiple rules configured, for example one rule that is specific to truck model A and another to truck model B.

Waypoint criteria and actions should have already been deployed. Refer to the Routes and Waypoints topic for more information.

In the following example, let's assume that we are defining a waypoint at the last point on the route to an ore dump. If a truck reaches this point and is carrying material other than ore, we want an alarm message to be relayed to the truck and to the Control Room Operator.

  1. Double-click on the waypoint.
  2. Click on the Waypoint Rules tab.
  3. Click New on the header and define the following in the Waypoint Action and Criteria Definition dialog.

Option Select
Action Raise Material Alarm
Available Materials / Ore
Selected Materials The truck has come from a known source with a known material type. If the material type is not Ore an alarm will be raised.

  1. Click Criteria | New and define the following in the Waypoint Criteria Definition dialog:

OptionSelect
CriteriaCycle Status
Selected Cycle StatesQueuing at Dump
The rule will be applied when a unit of equipment has the Cycle Status = Queuing at Dump.

  1. Click OK to save your defined Criteria.
  2. Click OK to save your defined Actions.

Let's add another rule to the same waypoint.

The Cat 785D trucks are hauling low grade ore. If they enter the zone of influence of the same waypoint, they must be directed to the Mill.

  1. Double-click on the waypoint again.
  2. Click on the Waypoint Rules tab.
  3. Click New on the header and define the following in the Waypoint Action and Criteria Definition dialog.

OptionSelect
ActionAllocate Equipment to Destination
LocationMill
  1. Click Criteria | New and define the following in the Waypoint Criteria Definition dialog:
OptionSelect
CriteriaEquipment Model
Selected Equipment ModelsCaterpillar 785D

  1. Click OK to save your defined Criteria.
  2. Click OK to save your defined Actions.
  3. Finally, click OK to save the waypoint definition.

To delete a waypoint simply highlight the waypoint you want to delete and press the Delete key on the keyboard.

When you have finished defining waypoints, Checkin and then Publish your changes to make them available to other Pitram applications and services.

The rules do not necessarily result in visible actions such as raising an alarm or redirecting a truck. Some rules simply record an event—recording the current position of equipment, or a load or dump weight, etc.
