Add Flat Switchback

On the Mining | Pit Design tab, in the Pit Road group: Click Add Flat Switchback to automatically switch the direction of the current road  from clockwise to anti-clockwise (or vice versa).

If not already selected, you will be prompted to select a road segment to append the flat switchback to.

Select the road segment for the flat switchback and click the Accept Selection button.

The following properties are displayed in the Flat Switchback form:

Curve Radius

Specify a radius value that will be used to determine the extent and tightness of the curve of the turning area.

Road Switchback Angle

By default the switchback angle is 180°. To turn the road by a different amount, enter an angle value.

Inside taper length

The Inside taper length value determines the distance over which the width of the switchback will be reduced on the inside of the road. An appropriate taper length ensures a smooth taper back from the outside of the road entry to the original base. The default value is [Auto], as a suitable taper distance is automatically calculated based on the width of the road. However, if you want to taper at a specific length, enter a value.

Outside taper length

The Outside taper length value determines the taper distance for the outside of the switchback. The default value is [Auto], as a suitable taper distance is automatically calculated based on the width of the road. However, if you want to taper at a specific length, enter a value.

Length Calculation Offset

The radius is measured from a specified (Inner , Centre, Outer, or Custom ) point on the road, taking into account the road width (which is already defined as part of the properties of the road).

  • Inner curve radius must be greater than 0

  • Outer curve radius must be greater than the road width

  • Centre curve radius must be greater than half of the road width

  • To measure the radius from a specific point on the road, select the Custom option and specify a value which is a factor of the road width.

Where multiple flat sections already exist in the design, and you select a segment next to one, the new flat section will be created there and not at the end of the current flat sections.

Note: If a road you add to the design intersects with another road, a warning will be displayed in the Output Console, but the new road will not be stopped.

Forms

Click the Forms button to select and open a saved form set, or if a form set has been loaded, save the current form set.

OK

Click OK to generate the flat switchback section of road.
