Join Strings
Click Join Strings join two or more strings (or select the Join Strings option from the Vizex right-click menu). You can also select a Coalesce (form) option from the tool menu.
To join two or more strings together:
- Hold down the CTRL key as you select the strings with the mouse.
- Select the Join Strings option from the right-click menu.
Alternatively:
-
On the Design tab, in the Editing group, click Join Strings:
The Selection Assistant will prompt you to select two or more strings.
-
Select the strings you want to join.
-
Click the Accept button in the Selection Assistant (or right-click in the display).
The strings are joined in the order they were selected. A new segment is added so that the nearest end points of the first two strings are joined together. This joined string is then joined to the next selected string and so on, until all selected strings are joined.
The nearest points are calculated using 3D coordinates, so the points that are joined are not necessarily those that appear closest in a 2D view. If the wrong two points are joined, click the Undo button and try either of the following:
- Extend from one of the end points and digitise the next point so that it is very close to the endpoint to join to on the other string. Now repeat the Join process and then delete the point you digitised (CTRL+click on point).
- The same process as (1) except rather than digitise a point close to the endpoint to join to, snap to the endpoint itself. Now the Join String will remove the duplicate point.
You can also select and join multiple strings by using the Select tool to enclose the strings in a selection rectangle. In this case however, the order in which the strings are selected and joined may not always be what you expect.
