System Requirements
For optimal Micromine performance, your computer system should meet the recommended configuration requirements described in the tables below.
Micromine is a 64-bit application which uses the same behind-the-scenes graphics technology as most modern 3D games, which means it will run well on a graphics system designed for 3D gaming. You should ensure that your computer has a powerful OpenGL graphics card capable of handling complex 3D graphics.
We have tested Micromine extensively in various environments and advise against the use of a 'business' computer. These typically come with a standard, low quality 2D graphics card which will compromise the visual elements of Micromine.

Footnotes
- Micromine only officially supports Windows 10 (64-bit). Windows 7 and Windows 8 may work but are not officially supported. Windows XP and Windows Vista are not supported.
- Micromine will use multiple processor cores for some processor- intensive tasks, for example wireframe processing, implicit modelling, grade interpolation and some Vizex graphics operations. We recommend a processor with four cores for standard workloads. We recommend at least 6-8 cores for large modelling workflows.
- This estimate is only for Micromine. You will need additional disk space for data. The exact amount required will depend on the size and complexity of your project.
- Micromine relies heavily on the wheel button for interactive 3D view manipulation. Some mouse software assigns the wheel button to extended functionality (for example, application switching), which is incompatible with Micromine. For maximum compatibility ensure the wheel button is assigned the default Windows behaviour.
- If you are using Office 365 you may need to manually install the correct drivers for Access compatibility. For full compatibility, the drivers should match Micromine’s 64-bit architecture. Refer to Choosing drivers for Microsoft Access compatibility for more information.
Micromine 2018 is the last 32-bit Micromine version. All future releases will only support 64-bit architecture. Microsoft introduced its first 64-bit operating system (Windows XP) in 2005, and nowadays virtually every PC runs 64-bit windows. You will not be affected by this change unless you are using a very old computer or operating system.
Choosing a Graphics Card
We recommend NVIDIA®, GeForce®, NVIDIA Quadro®, AMD Radeon™, AMD Radeon Pro™, and AMD FirePro™ cards. However, graphics cards are constantly evolving and there are exceptions to these recommendations, so please refer to the online rankings listed below, or contact Micromine support at support@micromine.com for the latest recommendations.
Some integrated or "on-board" graphics cards are not suitable for Micromine. For maximum compatibility and performance, you should choose a discrete graphics card that complies with the OpenGL 4.5 standard (or later).
The following online rankings may help you to choose a graphics card:
PassMark Software Videocard Benchmarks (http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/)
- For a recommended system, choose a card as near to the top of the High End Video Card Chart as you can reasonably afford.
- For a minimum system, choose a card from the Mid to High Range Video Card Chart.
NotebookCheck.net (http://www.notebookcheck.net/Comparison-of-Laptop-Graphics-Cards.130.0.html)
- For a recommended laptop system, choose a Class 1 video card as near to the top of the list as you can reasonably afford.
- For a minimum laptop system, choose a Class 2 video card.

Maintaining your graphics card
Many of the problems encountered within Micromine are caused by incompatible or old and unstable graphics card drivers. No matter which graphics card you use, we recommend always staying up-to-date with the latest graphics drivers.
